Kuching’s Fully Digital Smart Parking System Launches

(Kuching, October 2025) — Kuching is entering a new phase of urban digitalisation with the rollout of its fully digital smart parking system, marking a major step towards a cashless and paperless parking ecosystem.

According to a report by Malay Mail (28 October 2025), the new system will begin its trial phase on November 1, 2025, and is scheduled for full implementation on January 1, 2026.

The initiative replaces traditional paper parking coupons with a modern, app-based solution designed to improve efficiency, transparency, and user convenience.

A Fully Digital, Cashless Parking Experience

The new system allows motorists to:

  • Pay via a dedicated mobile application
  • Scan QR codes at parking locations
  • Use cashless payment terminals
  • Make digital payments through e-wallets or bank cards

Vehicle plate recognition technology (LPR) automatically records parking duration, calculates charges in real time, and ensures seamless enforcement.

This transformation eliminates the need for physical coupons while streamlining operations for both users and city authorities.

Pay Only for What You Use

One of the key highlights of the system is its smart refund mechanism.

If motorists leave earlier than expected, they can end their parking session via the app and receive a refund for unused time. This ensures fair and accurate billing based on actual parking duration.

Digital Season Pass Management

Monthly and long-term parking passes can now be purchased and renewed directly through the application. This removes the need for physical counters and reduces administrative inconvenience.

Users can manage their accounts, monitor usage, and extend parking sessions entirely online.

Inclusive Features for Senior Citizens

To ensure accessibility for all groups, the system includes an Elderly Easy Payment feature.

Registered users aged 60 and above can benefit from automatic vehicle plate recognition and seamless deductions without needing to manually activate the app for every parking session.

This feature ensures that digital transformation remains inclusive and user-friendly.

Supporting Smarter Urban Management

Beyond convenience, the digital system provides real-time data insights to support urban traffic planning and parking management. By integrating technology with city governance, Kuching positions itself as a forward-looking smart city committed to efficiency and sustainability.
